BEARS DOWN DEVILETTES BEHIND STUDIOSO’S PERFECT GAME

Conway – The Central Arkansas Bears got a perfect game from starter Kylee Studioso, picking up an 8-0 victory over Mississippi Valley State at Farris Field on Tuesday night. The senior righty struck out 10 in five innings.

Studioso (22-9) was literally unhittable on the night, retiring all 15 batters that she faced. She struck out eight Devilettes swinging and got two others looking and allowed just one ball to be hit out of the infield, recording at least one strikeout in each inning.

The Bears (27-15) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Left fielder Hannah Stirton led off with a walk and then stole second. After a strikeout and a flyout, centerfielder Amy Gunnells reached on a muffed throw and Stirton raced home on a throwing error on the same play. Gunells, who ended up on second, then moved to third on an infield single from right fielder Briana Whisenhunt, before a throwing error on a stolen base allowed Gunnells to come in from third.

First baseman Ashley Boswell drew a bases loaded walk in the third to push the UCA lead to 3-0 before the Bears exploded for five runs in the fourth. Second baseman Sarah Bigej got the inning started with a one out walk and then stole second base. Catcher Jessie Taylor drove her in with a two out single up the middle, before a walk from designated player Audrey Pratt brought Stirton to the plate. Stirton ripped a double down the left field line to drive in both runners and ended up on third after the throw. Shortstop Hayley Parker drew a walk and then stole second, when a throwing error scored Stirton to put the Bears up 8-0.

Central Arkansas begins an eight game road trip on Saturday, travelling to Beaumont, Texas to take on Lamar. The Bears and Lady Cardinals will play a single game at 5:00 PM Saturday evening, before wrapping up their series with a doubleheader at 1:00 PM on Sunday.
