SUGAR BEARS TO FACE PAIR OF NEW FOES IN IN FLORIDA

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Winners of six straight, the Sugar Bears will look to extend their streak to eight this weekend as they participate in the Hampton Inn Oceanfront Holiday Classic at the University of North Florida with games against a pair of programs Central Arkansas has never met in Campbell on Saturday and South Carolina State on Sunday.

Both games will tip at noon central time.

First up for the Sugar Bears (7-1) will be Campbell (5-3) out of the Big South Conference. The Lady Camels return nine players and three starters from last season's 19-12 team that was 13-7 in the Big South, and are in their 35th season under head coach Wanda Watkins, who is 541-427 at the school.

The Lady Camels score 60.2 points per game and are allowing 60.8 while the Sugar Bears rank 8th nationally, giving up just 50 points per game – including only 42.6 per game outside of the game at Tennessee.

The Sugar Bears are also among the national leaders in field goal percentage defense, ranking 15th nationally with opponents shooting just 33.1 percent; and in rebound margin – ranking 24th with an average margin of 10.5.

Leading scorer Maggie Proffitt, who has hit seven 3-pointers and averaged 19.5 points per game over the last two games, ranks 9th nationally in free throw percentage at 91.3, having hit 21 of 23 on the season.

Olivia McWilliams had 4 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and a steal in 20 minutes in Tuesday's win over Central Baptist, and has averaged 9.7 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists per game over the last three games while shooting 73.3 percent from the field and 85.7 percent from the free throw line.

The Lady Camels are led by 5-foot-4 senior guard Raechaun Edwards, who is scoring 14.5 points per game on 44.3 percent shooting and 42.9 percent 3-point shooting in addition to dishing out 4.5 assists per game and getting 2.8 steals per contest. Amanda Coffer, a 6-2 junior forward, averaged 10.9 points and a team-high 5.8 rebounds per game.

Edwards has topped the 20-point mark three times this season, including twice in the last three games before being limited to 5 in a 70-55 loss to East Tennessee State in the Lady Camels' last game. Coffer has been in double figures scoring in six of the Lady Camels' eight games, getting a high of 18 in the season opener against UNC Pembroke, and has three double-doubles on the season.

On Sunday the Sugar Bears will face the Bulldogs of South Carolina State out of the MEAC. The Bulldogs are 3-5, and come in having dropped their last two games to Davidson and Bethune-Cookman. The Bulldogs own wins over Florida A&M, Wofford, and a 90-39 win over Morris College in the season opener. They suffered a 71-38 loss to UAB, and came up just short against Clemson on Dec. 2, losing 63-54.

The Bulldogs score 57.1 points per game and give up 58.6, and have forced their opponents into 18.4 turnovers per game while committing nearly four per game fewer, and opponents have shot just 27.1 percent from beyond the arc against them this season.

Sophomore guard Brittany Drumgoole is the Bulldogs' leading scorer at 11.1 points per game while also averaging 4.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. She and the team's second and third-leading scorers (Bria Ratliff - 8.5 ppg, and Ashleigh Outler - 7.8) are have combined to shoot 36.3 percent from 3-point range. Jasmine Coleman, a 6-foot senior forward, averages a team-high 6.4 rebounds to go with 6.6 points per game, and leads the team with 1.1 blocks per game.

The Bulldogs have 10 players listed at 5-10 or taller, including five at 6-foot or taller with 6-4 freshman center Dashanique Peterson topping the list. The Sugar Bears have just two players 6-0 or taller, and six at or above 5-10.  Even with their height, the Bulldogs have out rebounded just two opponents this year, and were dominated on the boards 54-22 by UAB and 49-33 by Furman. The Sugar Bears, meanwhile, have out rebounded all of their opponents other than Tennessee, who had a slight 38-34 edge.

Following this weekend's games, the Sugar Bears will be away from action for a over a week before their non-conference finale against Jarvis Christian in the Farris Center on Dec. 29.
