SUGAR BEARS HOST INTRACITY FOE CBC TONIGHT

CONWAY — The Sugar Bears return to the Farris Center tonight as they play intracity foe Central Baptist College at 6:00pm, riding a five-game winning streak following Sunday's win at Southeast Missouri.

The Sugar Bears (6-1) are attempting to reach their longest win streak of coach Sandra Rushing's tenure at Central Arkansas, having had a five-game streak in each of her four seasons in Conway.

Tonight's game will mark the 6th consecutive season the teams have met, with the Sugar Bears having won the previous five over the Lady Mustangs by an average of 49 points per game – holding CBC to 36 points per game. The widest margin came in a 99-21 Sugar Bear win in 2012.

This season the Lady Mustangs, who compete in NAIA Division I, are 3-5 with a pair of wins over Crowley's Ridge College, a team the Sugar Bears defeated 93-38 on Dec. 3. CBC defeated CRC 85-64 in Conway and 87-72 in Paragould.

It will be the second time this season CBC has squared off against a Southland team, having lost 86-56 at Northwestern State on Nov. 23. The Lady Mustangs trailed just 34-30 at halftime before the Lady Demons exploded in the third quarter, outscoring CBC 34-7 to put the game away.

In that game, CBC had three players score in double figures led by Kaylen Taylor's 17. Rachel Etherington had 11, and Aaliyah Block had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds while also adding a pair of blocks.

CBC is averaging 65.2 points per game this season while allowing 71.1. Leading the way is senior guard Denesha Dillard at 14.2 points per game, though she has played in just five of the Lady Mustangs' games. Courtney Davidson averages 10.8, Eithering 10.6 and Bock 10.6. Taylor is 10th in NAIA Div. I at 5.1 assists per game, and Block leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per contest.

Southland Conference Player of the Week Maggie Proffitt, coming off a 22-point outing at Southeast Missouri on Sunday, leads the Sugar Bears in scoring at 12.4 points per game, with seven other Sugar Bears averaging between 5.2 and 9.4. Raquel Logan averages a team-high 8.6 rebounds per game and is fifth in scoring at 7 per game. Taylor Baudoin is second on the team in both points and rebounds, averaging 9.4 and 7.1.

The Sugar Bears will wrap up their non-conference slate with a pair of games this weekend at North Florida against Campbell and South Carolina State and on Dec. 29 against Jarvis Christian in the Farris Center. Southland Conference play begins at home on Jan. 2 against Abilene Christian.
