CONWAY — Central Arkansas kept Central Baptist scoreless for more than 9:30 to begin the game, opening with a 20-0 lead in a dominant first-half as the Sugar Bears cruised to a 70-37 win Tuesday night for their sixth straight victory.
The win gave the Sugar Bears (7-1) the longest win streak during head coach Sandra Rushing's tenure at Central Arkansas, topping the five-game streak they've reached in each of her four seasons.
Junior guard
Maggie Proffitt had a game-high 17 points in 17 minutes – all in the first half – and hit five 3-pointers to raise her career total to 142, good for second in the the program's Division I history behind Micah Rice's 166. It also moves her to fifth overall in program history, putting her past Westin Taylor and Kristin Frase, and just behind Stephanie McNespey's 157.
All 13 Sugar Bears saw action, with 12 scoring and 12 logging double-digit minutes. Junior guard
Brianna Mullins had 9 points, knocking down three 3-pointers of her own as the Sugar Bears finished with a season-high nine field goals from beyond the arc.
Senior forward
Kendara Watts had 6 points and a team-high 7 rebounds in a team-high 23 minutes. Senior guard
Jameka Watkins led the Sugar Bears with 6 assists in just 13 minutes, and redshirt freshman guard
Olivia McWilliams added 4 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and a team-best 3 blocks. Freshman forward
Tieraney Paylor added 6 points and 5 rebounds in just 9 minutes.
Courtney Davidson led CBC with 12 points, while Kaylen Taylor added 9 points and 4 rebounds.
The Sugar Bears shot 42.2 percent for the game and held CBC to just 23.6 percent, including 18.2 percent (2 of 11) from the 3-point line. UCA once again had a decided rebound advantage, getting 54 to CBC's 35, winning the rebounding battle for the seventh time in eight games this season – the lone excepting being a -4 margin at Tennessee.
Central Arkansas will travel to the University of North Florida this weekend for the Oceanfront Classic, taking on Campbell out of the SoCon on Saturday at noon central and South Carolina State out of the MEAC at noon on Sunday.
