Houston, Texas – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears opened a four-match road trip to close out the regular season on Thursday night, travelling to Houston, Texas to take on the Houston Baptist Huskies. The Sugar Bears pushed their winning-streak to six matches, taking down HBU 25-21, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23.
In the first set, Central Arkansas (15-10, 11-2 SLC) hit .243 behind four kills from both
Megan Nash and
Heather Schnars, while getting four blocks and 13 digs to limit Houston Baptist (15-14, 7-7 SLC) to an .057 attack percentage.
The second set saw Central Arkansas take advantage of three kills each from Schnars, Nash, and
Samantha Anderson and 12 assists from
Amy South to extend their lead to 2-0 despite the Huskies getting five kills from Jessica Wooten.
In the third set, Central Arkansas' hitting percentage dropped to .125 thanks to 17 digs and two blocks from the Huskies. Anderson added three kills to her tally, as the Sugar Bears managed just nine kills in the set.
The Sugar Bears upped their hitting percentage to .206 in the fourth set, led by
Nicole Peters, who picked up a kill on all three of her attacks. Schnars upped her kill count by five, and South added 10 assists.
On the night, Schnars tallied a team-high 14 kills and Anderson and Nash each chipped in nine kills, while South doled out a match-high 41 assists. Schnars completed the double-double with a team-high 15 digs, and
Allie Kemp pitched in 13 of her own and Nash tied for the match-high with six blocks.
The Sugar Bears return to action on Saturday, travelling to Corpus Cristi, Texas for a battle with league-leading Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders. The match is set to begin at 1:00 PM.
