Heather Schnars, the Sugar Bears rolled, earning their fifth straight sweep, 25-17, 25-20, 25-16.
Central Arkansas (14-10, 10-2 SLC) jumped out 6-1 lead in the first set, before Stephen F. Austin (17-12, 8-4 SLC) cut the lead to 8-6. Neither side was able to create much separation from that point until the Sugar Bears closed out the set on an 8-3 run. In the set, the Sugar Bears outhit the Ladyjacks .222 to -.045, getting four kills each from Schnars and junior
Rachel Sharp.
In the second set, it was SFA who grabbed the early lead, getting ahead 6-3 before a 7-0 Sugar Bear run forced a Ladyjack timeout. The teams traded points for the majority of the set, before the Sugar Bears again closed out the set on a run, this time getting a 5-0 rally to end the set. Schnars added eight kills to her tally, while South handed out 11 assists in the set.
Central Arkansas forced another early SFA timeout in the third set, jumping out to a 9-4 lead. The Ladyjacks would fail to get closer than five points for the rest of the set, as the Sugar Bears cruised to the sweep. Central Arkansas upped its hitting percentage to .390 in the set, getting eight kills from freshman
Samantha Anderson and five more from Schnars.
On the day, Central Arkansas held a .311 to .074 edge in hitting percentage. Schanrs led the way with a .441 attack percentage and a match-high 17 kills. Anderson hit .400 and added 12 kills of her own, and South passed out a match-high 37 assists. Defensively, Schnars completed the double-double with a team-high 10 digs, while sophomore
Megan Nash tallied a match-high three blocks.
Central Arkansas takes to the road next weekend, travelling to Houston, Texas for a 7:00 PM match against Houston Baptist on Thursday. On Saturday, the Sugar Bears will take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1:00 PM.
