San Antonio, Texas – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team returned to action on Friday night, opening a two game road trip with a visit to the University of the Incarnate Word. The Bears got a pair of first half goals to take down the Cardinals 2-0.
The Bears (6-6, 3-1 SLC) opened the match's scoring in the 32
nd minute, when freshman
Camille Bassett worked her way into the UIW box after gathering a pass from sophomore
Alex Moore fired past keeper Karly Brightwell to give Central Arkansas a 1-0 lead with her sixth goal of the season.

th minute, when freshman
Autum Schwartz collected a deflected ball from sophomore
Stacia Carroll in the box and put it away for her second goal of the season to push the UCA lead to 2-0.
The Bears had plenty of opportunities to extend the lead even further in the second half, taking five shots in the period, but were unable to find the net.
On the night, the Bears took 14 shots, placing nine on goal, led by Bassett, who was on target with four of her six attempts. Sophomore
Dayna Mounie was on frame with both of her shots, while Schawartz, junior
Shelby Wilson, and freshman
Kelly McLaughlin each put one shot on goal.
"We played really well in the first half, and did a good job of doing most of the things we talked about in training this week to give us a good chance at success against our opponent," said Central Arkansas head coach Jeremy Bishop. "We were a little flat in the second half, so give credit for putting us under a lot of pressure and working hard. I'm proud of the girls for fighting all the way through and keeping them out of many good scoring chances."
In goal for Central Arkansas, freshman
Lauren Mercuri made one save, earning her third straight win and collecting the first shutout of her career.
The Bears will wrap up the road trip on Sunday afternoon, taking on Abilene Christian at 1:00 PM.
