Abilene, Texas – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team took to the field on Sunday afternoon, looking for their second straight road win against the Abilene Christian Wildcats. The Bears were unable to find the net on the day, however, falling to the Wildcats 1-0.
Despite chances for both teams, the game was scoreless until there were just 37 seconds left in the first half, when ACU's (4-7-2, 3-1-1 SLC) Maria Gomez fired a free kick into the back of the Central Arkansas (6-7-0, 3-2-0 SLC) from just outside of 18 yards.
The Bears had a shot of their own with just two seconds to play in the half, but freshman Kristen Ricks' attempt went wide.
Central Arkansas managed just one shot in the second half.
The Bears put three shots on goal on the day, led by sophomore
Alex Moore, who was on target with two of her three attempts, while freshman
Camille Bassett put her only attempt on goal. In net for the Bears, freshman
Lauren Mercuri made eight saves.
Central Arkansas returns home next weekend, welcoming Stephen F. Austin to the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex for a 7:00 PM match
