Conway – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team hosted the Houston Baptist Huskies on Friday night. Before the match, the Bears honored the careers of
Megan Thomas and
Kate Koch, who are playing in their final home stand. On the field, the Bears fell in overtime, 2-1.
Central Arkansas (6-8-1, 3-3-1 SLC) controlled the ball for the majority of the first half, outshooting Houston Baptist (7-4-1, 5-2-0 SLC) 8-2 in the half and putting five shots on goal. Neither side was able to find the net in the first period.
The Huskies got on the board in the 50
th minute, when Ellee Hall won a ball right on the goal line and tapped it in to put HBU up 1-0.
The lead would hold until the 59
th minute, when
Shelby Wilson launched a corner kick into the HBU box, where it found
Ashley Smith, who headed it inside the back post to even the score at 1-1 with her fourth goal of the season.
Neither team was able to find the game-winner during regulation, sending the match to overtime, when Hall found Sabriah Spencer, who fired a rocket from 25 yards out to give the Huskies the 2-1 win.
The Bears outshot the Huskies 15-13 on the night, and held a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Smith led Central Arkansas, putting all three of her shots on target, while
Dayna Mounie was on goal with both of her shots. In goal for the Bears,
Anna Hughes made a pair of saves.
Central Arkansas plays their final home match on Sunday, hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1:00 PM at the Bill Stephens Complex.
