CONWAY — After snapping a three-game losing streak with a 53-46 win at New Orleans on Wednesday, the Sugar Bears return to the Farris Center after 16 days away to take on Nicholls at 2pm today.
The Sugar Bears (10-8, 3-3 Southland) will host the Colonels (7-10, 3-3), who are coming off a 74-71 loss to defending Southland tournament champion Northwestern State on Wednesday, missing a 3-point attempt at the buzzer to force overtime.
Nicholls has lost their last two, also losing 75-59 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, after winning three straight over Houston Baptist, Abilene Christian and Sam Houston State.
Jenny Nash leads the Colonels in both scoring and rebounding at 13.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, while Emani White has scored 12.5 points per game in limited action, having played just six games due to injury. White had 37 points in an 87-84 win over Southern University-New Orleans earlier this season, though over her last two games – against A&M-Corpus Christi and Northwestern State – she has shot just 5-21 (23.8 percent) from the field in scoring 7 points per game. Nicholls' Shay Arnick, who averages 6.4 points and 3.2 rebounds for the season, has had consecutive double-figures scoring games, going for 10 points and 4 rebounds vs. A&M-Corpus Christi and following it up with 18 points and 7 rebounds against Northwestern State.
The Sugar Bears come into the game with the Southland's top scoring defense at 57.2 points per game, but are also 12th of 13 in scoring offense, also at 57.2 ppg, and are last in conference games at just 51.8 ppg. Nicholls ranks 10th in scoring offense at 60.7 points per game, scoring 65.3 per game in Southland games.
Nicholls defeated UCA 69-60 last season in Thibodaux, La., overcoming a 17-point Sugar Bear lead by outscoring UCA 43-19 in the second half. White had 23 points in that game, including going 10 of 10 from the free throw line. The Sugar Bears had five players in double figures, including getting 11 each from Kelsey McClure, Brianna Mullins and Terai Sadler.
The Sugar Bears lead the all-time series 11-5, but have dropped three of the last four meetings.
Today's game is the first half of a doubleheader, with the Bears & Nicholls men to follow approximately half an hour after the conclusions of the Sugar Bears game.
