BEAUMONT, Texas — Central Arkansas went nearly 10 minutes without a field goal to start Tuesday's game at Lamar, falling behind big early and never threatening the Lady Cardinals as the Sugar Bears fell 82-46 for their second straight loss.
The Sugar Bears (9-7, 2-2 Southland) found themselves with an early 18-1 deficit and did not get a field goal attempt to fall until 9:50 into the game, by which point Lamar (6-9, 3-1) had built a 17-point lead that UCA would never get closer than 14.
The Lady Cardinals forced UCA into 17 first-half turnovers and just 23.8 percent shooting (including just 11.7 percent outside of Raquel Logan's 3-of-4) as Lamar built a 45-20 halftime lead. It was more of the same in the 2nd half as the Sugar Bears committed 12 more turnovers en route to a season-high 29 against a Lady Card defense that has forced nearly 23 per game this season. The Sugar Bears struggles from the field continued as they finished the game shooting just 31.9 percent.
Lamar, which had shot just 26.3 percent from 3-point range at home this season, was 8 of 20 (40 percent) and shot 50.8 percent from the field for the game, their second-highest total of the season. The Lady Cards also made the most of the Sugar Bears' miscues, outscoring UCA 38-6 on points off of turnovers.
UCA got 12 points from Jameka Watkins, her third time in double figures for her career, and Raquel Logan added 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks
Lamar got 24 points from JaMeisha Edwards and 16 from Dominique Edwards to lead the way for the Lady Cards, who had 12 players score. Edwards also had a game-high 10 rebounds, the fifth double-double of the season for the preseason all-Southland selection.
The loss was the Sugar Bears' third straight to Lamar, which leads the all-time series 9-6. The Sugar Bears finish their two-game road swing on Thursday when they visit Houston Baptist at 7 p.m.
