SUGAR BEARS LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK AT LAMAR

BEAUMONT, Texas — After having their five-game winning streak snapped at home by Stephen F. Austin last week, the Sugar Bears look to start a new one tonight as they hit the road to take on Lamar in the first of a two-game road swing this week, with Houston Baptist coming up on Thursday.

The Sugar Bears (9-6, 2-1 Southland) come into tonight's game against the Lady Cardinals (5-9, 2-1) looking to break a two-game losing streak vs. Lamar, having lost last season's meeting 56-53 in Conway and dropping the 2013 meeting in Beaumont 76-53. UCA had won the previous four meetings against Lamar, and the Sugar Bears trail 6-8 in the all-time series.

UCA enters tonight's game leading the Southland and ranked in the top 50 nationally in scoring defense at 56.3 points per game (32nd); free throw percentage (76 percent, 20th nationally); and fouls per game (13.5, 7th nationally).

Both teams feature a trio of players averaging double figures scoring, with UCA led by the trio of Maggie Proffitt (13.5), Kendara Watts (12.1) and Brianna Mullins (10.7) at a combined 36.3 points with a 36.8 3-point percentage among them.

Lamar is led by Dominique and JaMeisha Edwards and Baileigh O'Dell, who combine for 35.5 points per game. Dominique Edwards was a 2nd team All-Southland selection last season and again this preseason after averaging 14.1 points and 8.0 rebounds last season, including 13.6 points and 7.7 rebounds in Southland games.

The Lady Cardinal started the season 0-5, but have gone 5-4 in their last nine and are 3-2 at home this season with losses in the Montagne Center to Louisiana-Lafayette and UTSA. They have won their last three at home, beating St. Thomas, Huston-Tillotson and Nicholls, beating the Lady Colonels 67-62 on Jan. 3.
