Abilene, Texas – The Central Arkansas volleyball team returned to Southland Conference play on Thursday night, taking on Abilene Christian. The Sugar Bears and the Wildcats trade victories in the first four sets before Central Arkansas took the fifth set to earn the 3-2 win and pick up their 30
th straight victory over an SLC opponent.
Central Arkansas and Abilene Christian traded 25-22 victories in the first two set, before Abilene took the third set 25-21. Central Arkansas rebounded to win the fourth set 25-20, forcing a decisive fifth set, which the Sugar Bears won 15-12.
UCA (7-7, 2-0 SLC) outhit Abilene (2-12, 0-1 SLC) .172 to .149 on the night, led by
Heather Schnars, who hit .382 on her way to a match-high 27 kills.
Evie Grace Singleton turned in a double-double for the Sugar Bears, tallying 17 kills and 10 digs, while
Kristine Hjembo had a double-double of her own, racking up 62 assists, the eighth most in school history, and 11 digs.
Fulani Petties collected 13 kills and four blocks. Defensively, Central Arkansas was led by
Shelbee Berringer 20 digs and
Megan Nash six blocks.
Central Arkansas returns to action on Saturday afternoon, travelling to San Antonio, Texas to battle the University of the Incarnate Word. The match will begin at 2:00 PM.
