Conway – The Central Arkansas volleyball team returned to the Prince Center on Thursday night, after a trio of games on the road, playing host to Houston Baptist. The Sugar Bears and the Huskies traded sets until Central Arkansas took the fifth set to earn the 3-2 win.
Central Arkansas (16-9, 11-2 SLC) outhit Houston Baptist in all five sets on the night winning, holding a .277 to .102 advantage for the match. The Huskies (13-15, 7-6 SLC) took the first and third sets by identical 25-23 scores, while the Sugar Bears took the second set 25-11, the fourth set 25-19, and the fifth set 15-5.
Three Sugar Bears tallied double-digit kills on the night, led by
Heather Schnars, who collected a match-high 25 behing a .457 hitting percentage.
Evie Singleton added 14 kills, while
Alicia Dittrich chipped in with 12. The Central Arkansas attack was keyed by
Kristine Hjembo, who dished out a match-high 59 assists. Defensively,
Shelbee Berringer dug a match-high 14 attacks, while Schnars earned a double-double with 12 digs of her own. Dittrich and
Megan Nash each picked up six blocks.
The HBU offense was led by Bailey Keith's 12 kills and Kayla Armer's 33 assists, while on the defensive front, Haley Hoffman had 11 digs and Allison Doerpinghaus had six blocks.
Central Arkansas returns to the court on Saturday at noon, hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Prince Center.
