Conway – The Central Arkansas volleyball team took to the court at the Prince Center for the final time this season on Thursday night, playing host to Southeastern Louisiana. After the Sugar Bears celebrated the careers of seniors
Shelbee Berringer and
Alicia Dittrich, they rallied from a 1-0 to the Lady Lions to earn the 3-1 victory in their final Southland Conference match of the season.
The Sugar Bears (18-10, 13-3 SLC) hit just .027 while dropping the first set 25-22, but that was the only set of the night where they failed to hit at least .378. Central Arkansas took the second set 25-16, before hitting .444 to win the third 25-20 and .381 to take the fourth 25-15.
Dittrich led the way for the Central Arkansas offense, tallying a match-high 14 kills while hitting .722.
Heather Schnars added 13 kills and a team-high two blocks, and
Fulani Petties hit .400 and had 11 kills of her own.
Amy South keyed Sugar Bear attack with a match-high 49 assists. Berringer collected a match-high 19 digs to lead the UCA defense, which held Southeastern Louisiana (11-17, 8-8 SLC) to a .213 hitting percentage.
The Lady Lions were led by Tiffany Thomas' 14 kills and Mikayla Shippy's 29 assists on offense, while defensively they were led Morgan Todd's 19 digs and Rachael Bunn's five blocks.
Central Arkansas will close out the regular season on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM, travelling to Norman, Oklahoma to battle the Sooners of Oklahoma. The Sugar Bears will then begin play in the Southland Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament on Friday.
