Norman, Okla. – The Central Arkansas volleyball team played its final regular season match on Tuesday night, travelling to Norman, Oklahoma to take on the Oklahoma Sooners. The Sugar Bears grabbed a 2-0 lead, but the Sooners rebounded with three straight wins to take out Central Arkansas 3-2.
Central Arkansas (18-11) took the first set 25-21before winning the second 25-22 to head to the break with a 2-0 lead on the Sooners (18-9), but Oklahoma won the third set 25-18 and the fourth set 25-23 to force a decisive fifth set. With the Sugar Bears leading 13-11 in the fifth, the Sooners went on a 6-2 run to secure the victory with a 17-15 win in the set.
Four Sugar Bears turned in double-digit kills on the night, as
Amy South dished out a career-high 66 assists, the fifth-most in school history and the most by a Southland Conference setter this season.
Evie Singleton led the Sugar Bear attack, hitting .308 and tallying a match-high 22 kills to go with 20 digs and three service aces.
Heather Schnars also earned a double-double, picking up 19 kills and 10 digs.
Megan Nash hit .565 and added 14 kills and a team-high three blocks, while
Fulani Petties chipped in with 11 kills.
Shelbee Berringer led the Central Arkansas defense with a match-high 29 digs.
Four Sooners tallied double-digit kills, led by Kierra Holst's 20 and Marion Hazelwood's 13, while Julia Doyle had 51 assists. Taylor Migliazzo dug 17 Central Arkansas attacks, while Hazelwood had six blocks.
Central Arkansas, which earned the second seed in the Southland Conference Tournament, returns to the court on Friday morning at 11:00 AM. The Sugar Bears will take on seventh-seeded Southeastern Louisiana in the first match of the tournament, which will take place in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
