Des Moines, Iowa – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team travelled to Des Moines, Iowa for its final Missouri Valley Conference match of the season on Saturday night. The Bears and the Bulldogs played a hard-fought match, but the Bulldogs ended up victorious, taking down the Bears 2-1.
Drake (4-10-3, 2-3-0 MVC) opened the scoring in the eighth minute, when Mueng Sunday connected with James Wypych, who slotted the ball into the top corner to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.
Central Arkansas (3-12-1, 0-5-1 MVC) found an answer in the 23
rd minute, when
Manuel Montal slipped a pass to
William Woody on a give-and-go and Woody beat Drake keeper Darrin MacLeod in a 1-on-1 to knot the score at 1-1.
The Bulldogs got the game-winner just after the halftime break, as Alec Bartlett and Alex Troester fed Wypych, who connected with a diving header in the Central Arkansas box to put Drake up for good.
Bartlett led the Drake offense on the night, putting five of his six attempts on target, while Wypych was on goal with two of his three shots. Woody led the Central Arkansas attack, placing both of his shots on goal, while Montal, Logan Miller, and Wes Carson each put a shot on frame.
MacLeod made four saves to earn the win for the Bulldogs, while
Harrison Veith made seven saves for Central Arkansas.
The Bears will close out their season on Tuesday night, travelling to Tulsa, Oklahoma to take on Oral Roberts at 7:00 PM.
