Beaumont, Texas – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team played the first of a pair of games during the final weekend of the regular season on Friday night, heading to Beaumont, Texas to take on the Lady Cardinals of Lamar. The Bears found the net for the first time in four games, but still fell to the Lady Cardinals 4-1.
Lamar (5-11-2, 3-6-2 SLC) opened the scoring in the 31
st minute, as Kimmy Albeno picked up her eighth goal of the season on a penalty kick. The Lady Cardinals extended the lead to 2-0 in the 45
th minute, as Albeno fed Mari Olastuen, who fired a shot from deep for her second goal of the season.
Central Arkansas (5-11-2, 1-8-1 SLC) got on the board in the 55
th minute, when
Vanessa Randall secured a free ball on a scramble in front of the Lamar net and put it away for her third goal of the season.
Lamar pushed the lead back to two goals on the 70
th minute, when Albeno worked her way through the Central Arkansas defense and fired a shot from close for her second goal of the night. Kristin Bos capped the match's scoring in the 88
th minute, firing a direct kick from just outside the box to put the Lady Cardinals up 4-1.
Dayna Mounie led the Central Arkansas attack on the night, placing both of her attempts on target, while Randall and
Alex Moore each added a shot on goal. Taylor Mitchell led Lamar with four shots on goal. Albeno chipped in with three shots on frame, while Morgan Burden added two.
Bailey Fontenot made three saves and allowed one goal for Lamar.
Anna Hughes made six saves and allowed a pair of goals in the first half, and
Sarah Mayorga made four saves and allowed a brace of her own in the second half. The Bears also got a team save on the night.
Central Arkansas will wrap up its season on Sunday afternoon, heading to Lake Charles, Louisiana to take on the McNeese State Cowgirls. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
