BEARS FALL TO FIRST-PLACE SFA 3-0

Conway – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team began its season-ending road trip on Friday night, travelling to Nacogdoches, Texas to take on the top team in the Southland Conference, the Ladyjacks of Stephen F. Austin. The Bears put forth a valiant effort, maintaining a scoreless draw through the first half and into the second, when SFA scored a trio of goals to grab the 3-0 win.

The teams were fairly evenly matched during the first half, with SFA (13-2-1, 9-0-0 SLC) holding a 6-3 edge in shots, though neither team was able to put a shot on goal. The Ladyjacks turned on the pressure in the second half, taking 14 shots and placing nine on goal, while Central Arkansas (5-9-2, 1-6-1 SLC) managed just two shots in the second half, both of which were on goal.

SFA grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute, when Rachel Owens collected a cross from Chelsea Raymond and scored a close-range goal. Just 39 seconds later, Zuri Prince extended the SFA lead, beating the UCA defense down the right side and fitting a shot inside the near post for her eighth goal of the season. In the 89th minute, Jasmine White added an insurance goal, fielding the deflection of her penalty kick attempt and slamming it home for her third goal of the season.

Hannah Barker led the SFA offense on the night, placing three of her four attempts on goal, while White and Prince each put two shots on target. Shelby Wilson had both of Central Arkansas' shots on goal, while Kate Koch took a pair of shots and Dayna Mounie took another.

Morgan Glick earned the win for the Ladyjacks, making two saves on the night, while Anna Hughes took the loss on the back of six saves and three goals allowed.

The Bears return to the pitch on Sunday morning at 11:00 AM to take on Nicholls.
