Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

LATE GOALS DOOM BEARS AGAINST HOUSTON BAPTIST

Conway – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team took the field at the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex for the final time this season, hosting the Houston Baptists Huskies. The Bears and the Huskies played an even match until HBU scored a pair of late goals to secure the 2-0 victory.

After the teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half, it appeared as though that would be the outcome of the second half as well, until Allison Abendschein fielded a loose ball behind the
Central Arkansas line and blasted it into the top-right corner of the goal to give HBU (5-6-3, 4-1-2 SLC) a 1-0 lead in the 84th minute. The Huskies got an insurance goal in the 86th minute, when Rebekah Tovar fed Charlotte Vancura, who slotted it home from 20 yards out.

Central Arkansas (5-8-2, 1-5-1 SLC) out-shot HBU 14-13 on the day, though the Huskies held a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Brooke Ballard led the Central Arkansas attack, placing three of her four shots on frame, while Kate Koch and Stacia Carroll each put one shot on target. Natalie Hager had three shots on goal for the Huskies, while Abendschein added two, and Tovar and Vancura had one each. "I feel like if we just keep plugging away it's eventually going to break for us, and it's going to break in a big way," said Central Arkansas head coach Jeremy Bishop following the match. "It hasn't yet, but it's like I told the team, we have two choices right now: we can complain about that, or we can continue to work hard, which is what we're going to do. We're going to keep working hard and believing that it's going to break at some point."

Patty Walrath made four save to earn her third clean sheet of the season, while Anna Hughes made five saves and allowed two goals for Central Arkansas.

Central Arkansas takes to the road for a pair of games this weekend. The Bears will head to Nacogdoches, Texas to take on Stephen F. Austin at 7:00 PM on Friday night, before travelling to Thibodaux, Louisiana to make up a game against Nicholls at 11:00 AM on Sunday. "We're not going to quit, we're going to keep fighting, and honestly, we're still in it," said Bishop. "What's crazy about the conference this year is that things haven't gone the way we've wanted them to, but we're still in this, so we need to keep believing and keep working, because it's not over."

Bishop also talked about his group of seven seniors, who took the field at the Stephens for the final time on Sunday, "It's a tough way for them to finish up their careers, but they have represented our school, and our program, and their families extremely well. I'm proud of each and every one of them and I think that they're going to keep fighting. Hopefully we can get it turned around for them and the rest of the team."
