TULSA _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears will try to make it two straight victories over the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles on Saturday night at the Mabee Center.
The Bears (4-9, 1-1) will also be looking for their second consecutive Southland Conference win after beating Houston Baptist 86-69 last Saturday at the Farris Center.
UCA split the series with ORU last season, winning the second meeting 86-84 in overtime at home in the regular-season finale on Senior Day. The Golden Eagles (7-8, 1-1) won their home game 94-65 on Feb. 19.
"I think they will definitely be ready for us,' said UCA coach Clarence Finley. "I think they are going to try to pressure us in the half court and be very physical with us. We'll have to be strong with the ball and match the pressure and physicalness they are going to bring early. We'll have to weather the storm for the first 10 minutes of the game.'
Against Houston Baptist, the Bears shot 50.8 percent from the field and scored 53 points and scored 53 points in the paint. Four players scored in double figures, led by senior guards LaQuentin Miles with 22 points and DeShone McClure with 19, including 3 of 4 from three-point range. Sophomore forward Tirrell Brown has his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 71-64 home loss against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the team that beat UCA 81-66 in the SLC opener last Thursday in Conway. ORU senior guard Shawn Glover, the second-leading scorer in the SLC behind Miles, led the way with 21 points, while sophomore guard Korey Billbury added 18 points.
"We definitely have to be concerned with Glover,' said Finley. "He can play inside and outside. He's a very good player, big and strong.'
Finley said the Bears will be facing a hungry team Saturday.
"I think Coach (Scott) Sutton is upset with them for the way they played against Corpus Christi,' said Finley. "I watched his coach's show last night and he didn't think they played up to par against Corpus Christi. I think they might have taken them a little for granted, and then A&M got off to a really good start. And then it was just hard to make up the difference.
"It also looks like Corpus Christi is for real because they beat Northwestern (State) last night at home. But Coach Sutton will have them ready to play us tomorrow. They are going to try to take it out on us, but the Bears will be ready.'Â Â
UCA continues its road swing with a pair of games next week against SLC newcomers. The Bears play at Incarnate Word on Thursday and Abilene Christian on Saturday.
