SUGAR BEARS TAKE DOWN BRONCS TO CLOSE OUT CLASSIC

The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears closed out the 2013 UCA/Sears Sugar Bear Classic in a match against UT-Pan American on Saturday night. Central Arkansas picked up their fifth win in a row, taking dawn the Broncs in straight sets to earn the 3-0 victory.

The Sugar Bears (6-1) hit .356 on the night, highlighted by a first set in which they hit an impressive .452. Scout Brooks led the offensive attack for the Bears, collecting 11 kills and seven digs. Marissa Collins dished out 38 assists to key the offense, and Shelbee Berringer turned in a match-high 18 digs on the defensive side. Jessica Nagy and Heather Schnars each turned in eight kills.

Hailey Durham and Maria Kliefoth led UT-Pan American (4-3) with seven kills apiece, while Nycole Masaki tallied 23 assists and Nausheen Merchant had eight digs.

The Sugar Bears travel to Fort Myers, Florida next weekend to take part in the 2013 Hilton Garden Inn/Homewood Suites Volleyball Classic, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University. They will play FGCU at 10:00 Friday morning. Central Arkansas will take the court against Penn State, winners of four of the past six national championships, at 10:00 Saturday morning, before finishing their tournament appearance against Marquette at 3:00 Saturday afternoon.
