Button’s 23 Kills, Carnathan’s Double-Double Powers Sugar Bears by Governors

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Central Arkansas (7-12, 7-2 UAC) defeated Austin Peay (10-12, 2-7 UAC) 3-1 on Wednesday, winning their fifth match in a row. Greyson Button set a season high in kills by a Sugar Bear with a career high mark of 23 in the match, hitting .488. Button added six blocks and a dig to her 26.5-point line. Sarah Carnathan added her third-straight double-double performance with 13 kills, 11 digs and two aces in the match.

Central Arkansas turned a 16-16 tie into a 20-16 lead in the opening set with Trinity Hamilton at the service line, getting a block from Button and Tatelyn Brandsma before kills by Ella Chaney and Button during the four-point burst. Austin Peay answered to tie it at 20-20 and later scored back-to-back points for a 24-22 edge. Carnathan's kill kept Central Arkansas in it at 24-23, but Austin Peay took the set 25-23 on the next point.

After Austin Peay tied the second set at 23-23, Central Arkansas got consecutive Button kills from Sophie Skinner to close a 25-23 win. Earlier, the Sugar Bears answered a 17-13 deficit with three Sarah Carnathan kills and an Olivia Kremer ace before an Austin Peay attack error tied the set at 18-18.

The Sugar Bears responded to a 3-0 start with nine-straight points in the third set, moving ahead 9-3 behind McKinzee Haas' serving run and kills from Carnathan, Button, Annie Hopkins and Chaney. Central Arkansas stayed in front from there, with Button finishing five kills in the set and Chaney closing the 25-15 set win with a service ace.

After erasing a 10-5 deficit, Central Arkansas won the fourth set 28-26. Kremer and Skinner served aces during the push from a 15-15 tie to a 19-16 Sugar Bear lead. The Governors later tied it at 24-24, but Button put down two extra-point kills before consecutive Austin Peay attack errors closed the set.
