The Central Arkansas men's soccer team hit the road for a non-conference matchup with 21
st-ranked Saint Louis University on Saturday night. The Bears and Billikens were tied at 1-1 in the 54
th minute, but goals by SLU in the final 35 minutes of play gave them the 4-1 victory.
The Billikens (5-2-0) took the lead in the 22
nd minute, as Alex Sweetin converted on a penalty kick. Wes Carson found an equalizer in the 54
th minute, getting a ball from Logan Miller on the breakaway and tapping it home to knot the score at 1-1. SLU needed just 50 seconds to respond, when Robert Kristo fielded a pass from Francisco Vizcaino and slotted it into the net from seven yards away to put SLU up 2-1. In the 66
th minute, Central Arkansas (4-5-0) surrendered an own goal to push the deficit to 3-1. An impressive individual effort from Adnan Gabeljic in the 88
th minute pushed the SLU lead to 4-1, as he worked his way through the Central Arkansas midfield and blasted a shot into the net from 25 yards out.
Carson was the only Bear to place a shot on target on the night. Logan Miller attempted five shots, while Sam Cusack, Jaden Hoth, and Matt Taphorn each added a shot. Sweetin led the way offensively for SLU, placing three of his four attempts on goal. Gabeljic and Kristo each added a pair of shots on goal. Patxi Shortsleeve made six saves and allowed four goals in net for Central Arkansas. Nick Shackelford allowed a goal for the Billikens.
Central Arkansas opens Missouri Valley play on the road next weekend, heading to Edwardsville, Illinois to face off against SIUE. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
