NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Sugar Bears will look to snap their two-game losing skid tonight at 6 p.m. when they face Stephen F. Austin at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
The Sugar Bears (13-8, 6-4 Southland) dropped back-to-back games last week against Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State, and have lost three of their last four, but will look to get back on track against a Ladyjack (9-12, 4-6) team that UCA beat 57-54 in the Farris Center on Jan. 10.
Central Arkansas has never won in Nacogdoches, going 0-4 in their previous trips to Johnson Coliseum. The Sugar Bears nearly won in 2010, but a last-second 3-pointer lifted the Ladyjacks to a 98-96 victory.
SFA leads the series 7-3, though the Sugar Bears have won three of the last four since that game.
The Sugar Bears are trying to avoid their first three-game losing streak in conference play since 2009, and first overall since Nov. 14-20, 2011 when they lost at Alabama, at Morehead State and to Norfolk State in a neutral site game at Morehead, Ky.
In the earlier meeting this season, the Sugar Bears led by 17 at halftime and led by as many as 19 in the 2nd half before the Ladyjacks stormed back and took a six-point lead with six minutes to go. But the Sugar Bears bounced back and escaped with a 57-54 win. Megan Herbert had a game-high 26 points, and Courtney Duever had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Tracey Parsons had six points, a game-high eight assists to just two turnovers, and three steals. SFA got 15 points from both Daylyn Harris and Annette Davis. Porsha Roberts, a preseason all-conference selection, had nine points and seven rebounds.
