CONWAY — After taking their first loss of the season at Indiana on Monday, the Sugar Bears return to the Farris Center on Saturday looking to bounce back against ULM at Noon.
The Sugar Bears (3-1) are 2-0 all-time against the Warhawks (2-1), winning 62-49 last season in Monroe and 73-55 on Nov. 25, 2011 in Lubbock, Texas at Texas Tech.
ULM comes into Saturday's game having been off for a week following an 87-77 win over Southland Conference foe Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 15. ULM also has a 92-52 win over Louisiana College to its credit after beginning the season with an 86-47 loss at TCU.
The Warhawks are led by the inside duo of 6-foot-1 senior forward Ashleigh Simmons and 6-2 junior center Sharnice Brooks. Brooks leads the team with 15.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, while Simmons averages 14.3 and 7.0. Brooks is shooting 70.4 percent (19 of 27) from the field for the season while Simmons is at 62.1 (18 of 29).
Outside of that duo, the remainder of the Warhawks are shooting just 35.9 percent, led by senior guard Jasmine Shaw's 9.0 points per game on 42.3 percent shooting.
The Sugar Bears, who are 2-0 at home this season with a pair of lopsided wins over Alcorn State (71-39) and Central Baptist (98-36), are getting a team-high 14 points per game from senior Courtney Duever, who is the lone Sugar Bear to score in double figures in each of the team's four games this season. Freshman Maggie Proffitt, who had 30 in her last outing in the Farris Center, is second at 13.3.
As a team, the Sugar Bears are averaging 47.1 percent shooting from the field, with Duever converting a team-high 59 percent (23 of 39) of her shots. Despite allowing 10 3-pointers to Indiana, the Sugar Bears have still outscored their opposition by 15 from beyond the arc, shooting 36.8 percent led by Micah Rice's 54.5 percent (6 of 11). Duever and Rice are also the team's leading rebounders at 8.0 and 4.3 per game.
It is the first of two games the Sugar Bears will play against Sun Belt teams this season as Arkansas State comes to the Farris Center on Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the UCA men – who face Charleston Southern at noon.
