BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A pair of unbeatens will meet up tonight when Central Arkansas (3-0) squares off against Indiana (3-0) at Assembly Hall in Bloomington at 6pm central/7 eastern.
It will mark the second meeting between the Sugar Bears and Hoosiers, with the Sugar Bears getting a 58-46 win in the Farris Center in Conway in the 2011 season opener. Tonight's matchup will bear little resemblance to that game, however, as the Sugar Bears feature just two players (Courtney Duever and Micah Rice) and the Hoosiers three (Sasha Chaplin, Milika Taufa and Andrea Newbauer) who played in the first meeting – with Rice and Newbauer the only starters. Neither coaching staff returns from the previous meeting, with both Sandra Rushing and Indiana coach Curt Miller in their second seasons at their respective schools.
NOTES
-
Freshman Maggie Proffitt's 8 3-pointers in last Thursday's win over Central Baptist was not only tied for the second-highest total in Sugar Bear history, but also equals the 7th-highest total ever in the Southland Conference. Her .571 3-point percentage in the game is the 4th highest for Southland players who've hit 8 or more in a game. The conference and UCA record is held by Westin Taylor, who hit 10 (all in the second half) against Ecclesia in 2009.
-
Following her 30 points against CBC and 14 at Ole Miss, Proffitt is now the Sugar Bears' leading scorer at 16.3 points per game – also making her the highest-scoring freshman in the Southland.
-
Courtney Duever leads the Sugar Bears in rebounding (8.3 per game) and is second in scoring (15.3) despite playing only 22 minutes per game. In the Sugar Bears' two blowout wins over Alcorn State and Central Baptist, she averaged just 16 minutes per game. Per 40 minutes, Duever is averaging 27.9 points and 15.2 rebounds.
-
This is the third straight season for the Sugar Bears to start the season 3-0. Last year they won their first three before losing the fourth game of the season at Louisiana Tech . In 2011 they won their first four before dropping back-to-back games to Texas Tech and UMKC in Lubbock.
-
The Sugar Bears have won their three games this season by an average of 32.3 points per game, and have held opponents to only 46 points per game. They have the best field goal percentage (.561) and field goal percentage defense (.265) among all Southland teams.
-
Of Indiana's three wins, two have come on the road at IPFW (85-80) and Indiana State (57-54), matching their road win total from all of last season. They defeated Oakland 85-55 in Assembly Hall in the season opener.

Indiana coach Curt Miller joined the Hoosiers after a successful stint at Bowling Green, where he led the Falcons to a 258-92 (.737) record, including a 24-7 season in his final year – winning Mid-American Conference (MAC) Coach of the Year honors for a league-record sixth time and was named WBCA Region 4 Coach of the Year for a fourth time. BGSU won at least a share of a MAC regular season division title in each of Miller's last eight seasons, including seven outright league championships.
