The Central Arkansas men's soccer team took a break from its Missouri Valley Conference schedule on Monday night, heading to Tulsa, Oklahoma to face off with the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. Central Arkansas was unable to hold a late lead, surrendering an equalizer late in regulation before conceding the game-winner in the second overtime period.
Central Arkansas (4-10-1) grabbed the lead in the 19
th minute when Taylor Hart controlled a ball at the top of the 18-yard box and slotted it into the left corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season and the 1-0 lead. The Bears would hold that lead until the 89
th minute, when ORU's Marco Hernandez collected a pass from Gerardo Salas and put it away to knot the score at 1-1 in the game's dying minutes. Central Arkansas opened the first overtime period with a barrage on the offensive end, attempting three shots in the first three minutes, but neither team was able to find the golden goal, sending the game to a second overtime. Griffith Poindexter corralled it and put it into the left corner to give Oral Roberts the 2-1 victory.
Central Arkansas outshot Oral Roberts by a total of 18-11 on the night, placing eight of those attempts on frame. Hart, Wes Carson, and Alex Ghaffari were each on target with two shots, while Logan Miller and Daylon Shiffel added one shot on goal apiece. Poindexter led the offense for the Golden Eagles with two shots on goal and Hernandez and Tyler Hill each chipped in one. Taran Meyer made two saves in goal for the Bears while allowing two goals. For the Golden Eagles, Isaac Sandoval made seven saves and gave up one goal.
Central Arkansas returns to MVC play on Sunday, hitting the road for Chicago, Illinois to face off with the Loyola Ramblers at 1:00 in the afternoon. This will be the first conference meeting between the two teams.
