EVANSVILLE TOPPLES MEN’S SOCCER 1-0

Conway, Ark. –

The Central Arkansas men's soccer team returned to the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex for a Missouri Valley Conference match against the Evansville Purple Aces on Saturday. Evansville scored the game's only goal to get the 1-0 victory.

The Purple Aces got what would prove to be the game-winner in the 26th minute, when Joel Craig launched a cross into the Central Arkansas box, where Mark Gonzalez slotted it into the right corner of the net to give Evansville the 1-0 lead. Central Arkansas was unable to find an equalizer.

Wes Carson led the Central Arkansas offense, as he was on target with both of his shot attempts. David Ngwenya and Taylor Hart each added a shot on goal. Gonzalez and Charlie Macias each had two shots on goal for Evansville, who also got shots on goal from five other players.Patxi Shortsleeve mayed five saves and allowed a goal in 52 minutes in net for the Bears, while Taran Meyer made three saves in 38 minutes. Eric Teppen made four saves for Evansville.

Central Arkansas returns to action on Monday, travelling to Tulsa, Oklahoma for a 7:00 pm match against Oral Roberts. The Bears will then head to Chicago, Illinois for a 1:00 pm match against Loyola on Saturday.
