After stepping out of Missouri Valley Conference play against Memphis last week, the Central Arkansas men's soccer team returned to the MVC slate with a road trip to Springfield, Missouri to battle Missouri State. Missouri State netted two goals off of headers to take the 2-0 victory.
Missouri State (9-3-2, 4-0-0 MVC) grabbed an early 1-0 lead off the head of James Fawke. James Thomas took a free kick for Missouri State, blasting it off of the Central Arkansas (4-8-1, 0-2-1 MVC) crossbar. The ball ricocheted away, but Fawke flew in with a diving header and knocked the ball home for his first goal of the year. Central Arkansas turned on the pressure following the goal, outshooting Missouri State 4-1 for the remainder of the first half, but was unable to even the score.
Missouri State added to its lead in the 55
th minute, when Jon Boyack lofted a corner kick into the Central Arkansas box. This time it was Emmerich Hoegg who finished the play, heading the ball home for his fourth goal of the season and a 2-0 lead. Central Arkansas was unable to find a goal in the remainder of the half, taking three shots following Hoegg's goal.
Logan Miller led the Central Arkansas offense, placing one of his three shots on goal. Wes Carson added two shots, while Taylor Hart and Daylon Schiffel each chipped in one. Fawke led the way for Missouri State, placing two of his three attempts on target. Missouri State also got shots on goal from Hoegg, Jarred Clark, and Cole Alexander. Patxi Shortsleeve made three saves in net for Central Arkansas while allowing two goals. Trevor Spangenberg made one save for Missouri State, who recorded their sixth shutout in a row.
Central Arkansas returns to action on Saturday, welcoming Evansville to the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex for a Missouri Valley Conference match. The game is scheduled to begin at noon.
