Courtney Duever got her fourth career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds in Friday night's win at Alcorn State
ALCORN STATE, Miss. — Central Arkansas limited Alcorn State to just 16 second-half points on Friday night to escape with a 47-39 road victory over the Lady Braves to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Sugar Bears held the Lady Braves to just 28.3 percent shooting (17 of 60) for the night, and in three games this season have yet to allow an opponent to shoot 33 percent or better. For the season, the Sugar Bears have held their opposition to just 29.8 percent (57 of 191) from the field and 43.7 points per game.

Central Arkansas needed that defensive effort, as they shot just 33.3 percent (16 of 48), including just 2 of 12 (16.7 percent) from 3-point range, but converted 13 of 19 at the free throw line to distance themselves from the Lady Braves. The Sugar Bears also held a decided rebounding advantage at 43-27.

Junior center Courtney Duever led all players with 17 points, and grabbed 11 rebounds for her fourth career double-double. Senior forward Megan Herbert was held to just six points, but grabbed 15 rebounds to move into sixth place in Southland Conference history with 1,150. She has 50 rebounds in three games this season, an average of 16.7 per game.

Senior guard Micah Rice had seven points and six rebounds, and hit the 138th 3-pointer of her career to tie her with Westin Taylor for fifth on the Central Arkansas career list.

Renelle Richmond led Alcorn with 12 points.

The Sugar Bears will play their third consecutive road game next Tuesday when they travel to Ruston, La. to take on Louisiana Tech. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
