JONESBORO, Ark. – The University of Central Arkansas men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams had a successful final day at the ASU Invitational as the men took first-place in the 400 meter dash and the 4x400 meter relay. The 4x400 meter relay performance set a new school record. Tanesha Maxwell set a pair of new school records for the women.
The Bears earned their first top-finish of the afternoon in the 400 meter dash as Chance Tanner bested the rest of the field with a time of 49.69. Shaquell Windley of Southeastern Louisiana was second with a mark of 49.80, but two other Bears rounded out the top-four. Sage Raphael finished third with a time of 49.93 and Kelton Ray was right behind, finishing at 50.06.
Tanner, Raphael and Ray later teamed up with Demarcus Harrison to compete in the 4x400 meter relay. The group finished first in the event by just over two seconds. Their time of 3:18.94 broke the previous school record of 3:19.81, set back on Feb. 13, 2010.
In field events, James Anderson earned second in the high jump, tying a school record with a jump of 2.08 meters. The 2.08 mark has been done two other times by Bobby Washington (2/5/11 & 12/2/12).
On the women’s side, Tanesha Maxwell was busy breaking school records of her own. The sophomore from Tampa, Fla. broke her previous school record of 7.19 in the 55 meter dash with a 7.10, third-place effort this afternoon. Later on, she again broke her own record in the 200 meter dash, clocking in at 25.48. Her previous record in that event was just one week old and stood at 25.89.
The women had just one other top-three finish on the afternoon as Jatoi Snell finished third in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.60. Sharika Nelvis of Arkansas State finished first in the event at 7.81 while Louisiana Tech’s Kim Francis was second, covering the ground in 7.97 seconds.
The indoor track and field season will resume next weekend at the SIU Invitational in Carbondale, Ill.
