BEARS FALL 3-2 IN OVERTIME

Freshman Stephen Williams tied the game at 2-2 on Saturday
CONWAY, Ark. _ Eastern Illinois’ Jake Brillhart scored his second goal of the game nine minutes into overtime Saturday to give the Panthers a 3-2 victory over the University of Central Arkansas in non-conference action at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer complex.

The Bears (1-1) had overcome a 2-0 deficit with two quick goals less than a minute apart late in the second half. Freshman Daylon Schiffel scored from close range off a pass from junior Reggie Hardy at the 78:47 mark. Freshman Stephen Williams then tied the game with an unassisted goal from 20 yards out on the left side at 79:20.

The Panthers (2-0) broke a 0-0 halftime tie with a goal at the 58:48 mark by Brillhart off a cross from Will Butler. Chris Boswell made it 2-0 with a header off a pass from Jake Irwin.

In overtime, Brillhart turned Ryan Child’s pass into the game winner.

UCA sophomore goalkeeper Paxti Shortsleeve recorded four saves, while EIU’s Evan Turner had two. The Panthers out-shot the Bears 11-7. UCA lost freshman Sergio Campbell to a red card 30 minutes into the game.

The Bears return to action on Friday when they travel to Ohio to take on the University of Cincinnati.
