OXFORD, Miss. - At the Mississippi Open on Saturday, the University of Central Arkansas track and field team broke two school records and added six more qualifiers for the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships in May. With one meet remaining, UCA now has 46 qualifiers for the Championships.
The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Megan Snow, Jasmine Ellis, Tanesha Maxwell and Jasmine Johnson set a school record with a time of 46.58 sec., placing eighth. Sophomore Tasha Bryles also broke the school record with a shot put throw of 12.67 meters (41 ft.-7 in.), placing 11th.
Junior Heather Estetter and sophomore Courtney Efurd both qualified for the 800 meters. Estetter took 13th place in 2:18.50 and Efurd finished 16th in 2:19.03.
Freshman Erika Setzler qualified in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, placing 10th in 12:13.71.
Other top finishers for the Sugar Bears included: Emily Parker in the 5,000 meters (6th, 19:58.13), Snow in the javelin (6th, 33.65 meters (110 ft.-5 in.)) and 100 meter hurdles (15th, 14.76 sec.), Jessica Potter in the high jump (7th, 1.63 meters (5 ft.-4.25 in.), Maxwell in the 100 meter dash (7th, 11.937 sec.) and 200 meter dash (15th, 25.02 sec.), Estetter, Ellis, Jasmine Coleman and Johnson in the 4x400 meter relay (8th, 3:59.55), Ellis in the long jump (9th, 5.45 meters (17 ft.-10.75 in.)), Brittany Briswalter in the discus (10th, 37.68 meters (123 ft.-7 in.), McKinley Rea in the pole vault (13th, 3.27 meters (10 ft.-8.75 in.)), Mackenzie Johnson in the hammer throw (16th, 38.46 meters (126 ft.-2 in.)), Jordan Chadwick in the 400 meter hurdles (19th, 1:09.04), Elizabeth Craig in the 1,500 meters (24th, 5:08.20) and Jasmine Johnson in the 400 meters (25th, 1:00.30).
For the Bears, juniors Isaiah Mason and Jeremy Stuckey joined teammates Jaron Criswell, Derrick Steele and Donavan Loring as qualifiers for SLC in the long jump. Mason finished sixth on Saturday with a jump of 6.87 meters (22 ft.-6.5 in.). Stuckey took eighth at 6.77 meters (22 ft.-2.5 in.).
Senior Phillip Boles qualified in the 100 meter dash, placing 14th in 10.82 sec.
UCA had five top five finishes. Freshman Amos Gerber placed second in the 5,000 meters in 15:35.75. Graduate student Sohji Izumi was also second with a javelin toss of 57.36 meters (188 ft.-2 in.).
Loring placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 15.06 meters (49 ft.-5 in.) and junior Bobby Washington was third with a high jump of 2.05 meters (6 ft.-8.75 in.).
The 4x100 meter relay team of Stuckey, Boles, Criswell and Josh Epps placed fifth in 41.50 sec.
Other top finishers for the Bears included: Demarcus Harrison, Trevor Peacock, Sage Raphael and Ananias Hudson in the 4x400 meter relay (6th, 3:15.31), Daniel Reese in the pole vault (6th, 4.77 meters (15 ft.-7.75 in.)), Raphael in the 400 meters (9th, 47.75 sec.), Harrison in the 400 meter hurdles (10th, 54.03 sec.), Michael Allen in the 800 meters (11th, 1:56.65), Boles in the 200 meter dash (13th, 21.57 sec.), Jake Goode in the shot put (18th, 10.30 meters (33 ft.-9.5 in.), and Tanner Hubbard in the 1,500 meters (29th, 4:25.94).
UCA's final meet before the SLC Championships will be on April 23 at the Northwestern State Demon Invitational in Natchitoches, La.
