SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State completed a three-game sweep of Central Arkansas with a 7-1 victory at Bobcat Field in Southland Conference softball action on Sunday. The host Bobcats (21-18, 14-7) outhit the Bears (17-23, 7-11) 9-5 and took advantage of three UCA errors.
Third baseman Jenna Emery hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second to give the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead. TXST scored six runs on four hits and two errors in the fifth to go up 7-0. Center fielder Allyce Rother and catcher Megan Parten each had a two-RBI single in the inning.
The Bears' only run came in the top of the seventh when junior Katie McGregor singled and later scored from second on a base hit by freshman third baseman Tarra Underhill.
McGregor had two hits and freshman second baseman Taylor Dear recorded a double for the Bears. Parten, McKenzie Baack and Chandler Hall had two hits each for the Bobcats.
Anne Marie Taylor (10-4) picked up her second win of the series by fanning four and allowing two hits over five innings. UCA sophomore Kelsie Armstrong (11-15) allowed six hits, one earned run, one walk and struck out two.
UCA will host Hendrix College at Farris Field on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
