AFTER SLOW START, SUGAR BEARS RUN PAST LADY MUSTANGS

Desiree' Rogers had her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds on Monday
CONWAY — After a sluggish first half, Central Arkansas turned up the intensity and pulled away from crosstown foe Central Baptist College for a 79-48 win at the Farris Center on Monday.

The Sugar Bears (6-2) led just 34-24 at the break, but outscored the Lady Mustangs 45-24 in the second half en route to their sixth decisive victory of the young season.

UCA led just 25-22 with four minutes to play in the first half, but closed the half with a 9-2 run. After CBC struck first in the second half, the Sugar Bears reeled off a 19-3 run over the next seven minutes to put the game away.

Junior forward Desiree' Rogers had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Sugar Bears, recording her first double-double of the season and fifth of her career. Megan Herbert and Courtney Duever tied for a game-high 13 points, and Nakeia Guiden added 10.

The Sugar Bears forced CBC into 27 turnovers, which resulted in 29 UCA points. The Sugar Bears held a 21-4 advantage in fast break points, and outscored the Lady Mustangs 43-16 in the paint.

Guiden led the Sugar Bears with a season-high five assists and recorded a team-high three steals for the fourth time this year.

CBC was led by 12 points from Preva Edwards, who was 4-for-8 from 3-point range, and 10 by Shelby Winkle.

The Sugar Bears return to action on Saturday when they host UT Martin, last season's Ohio Valley Conference representative in the NCAA tournament, at 2 p.m. in the Farris Center.
