CONWAY — Central Arkansas ran out to a 48-13 halftime lead and steadily extended the gap in the second half as the Sugar Bears scored a decisive 90-36 win over Ecclesia on Friday.
The Sugar Bears (5-2) held an opponent to less than 50 points for the fourth time in seven games this year, limiting the Royals to 24.4 percent shooting for the game including a 4-for-22 (18.2 percent) first half.
UCA shot 51.5 percent (35 of 68) for the game, hitting at a 54.3 percent clip in the first half.
The Sugar Bears went deep into their bench, playing 12 players with all but two playing at least 10 minutes and none more than 25. The UCA reserves scored 56 of the team's 90 points, compared to just 11 bench points for the Royals.
Megan Herbert led the Sugar Bears in scoring with 17 points in 21 minutes, while Courtney Duever added 16 in 19 minutes and Westin Taylor scored all of her 13 points in the first half, hitting 3-of-4 3-pointers in the period.
Desiree' Rogers narrowly missed her first double-double of the season, grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds to go with nine points. Freshman guard Sharlay Burris had a game-high six assists. Freshman guard Mary Sims made her Central Arkansas debut and responded with seven points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals in 18 minutes.
UCA had 17 steals, led by Duever's four, and forced Ecclesia into 28 turnovers which resulted in 40 UCA points. The Sugar Bears dominated around the basket, outrebounding the Royals 45-32 and holding a 52-10 lead on points in the paint.
Sabrin Westmoreland led Ecclesia with 10 points.
With the 54-point win, 20 of the Sugar Bears' last 26 wins have come by 12 or more points.
UCA will host Central Baptist at 5 p.m. on Monday, the first game of a doubleheader at the Farris Center with the UCA men taking on Southeast Missouri State afterward.
