CONWAY — After more than 80 minutes of a scoreless stalemate, Central Arkansas surrendered a goal to IPFW and was unable to answer over the next nine minutes as the Bears fell 1-0 to the Mastodons on Sunday.
The Mastodons (3-7-1) got the game's lone goal off a corner kick by Colin Helmrich, with Myles Stanley scoring the game winner in the 81st minute.
The Bears (1-5-1) had several opportunities, recording 12 shots with three on goal and many good looks inside the box that narrowly missed the mark. Denmark Gillings and Stephen Williams led the Bears with four shots each.
Amir Pasic had four saves for the Bears, and Brandon Cloutier had three for the Mastodons.
The Bears will play their next four on the road, taking on Houston Baptist in Plano, Texas on Wednesday then beginning Missouri Valley Conference play at Missouri State next Saturday. The Bears will then travel to SIU Edwardsville and Mercer on Oct. 12 and 15.
