The UCA men's soccer team returns home for its first Missouri Valley Conference matchups in Conway this season, taking on Evansville at 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Drake at 2 on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears (1-7-3, 0-1-1 MVC) will be looking to get into the win column after alternating losses and ties in their previous seven games – taking each loss by a single goal.
Evansville (5-6, 0-3) is one of three teams seeking their first MVC win of the season along with the Bears and No. 6 Creighton, which lost 1-0 at Missouri State last week.
The Purple Aces have dropped four of their last five, losing 3-2 at No. 21 Kentucky and – after defeating Belmont 4-1 – dropping three straight to SIU Edwardsville, Drake and Missouri State. They are 3-0 all-time against the Bears, and won last year's meeting 5-0 in Evansville.
Drake, Saturday's opponent, holds a 9-4-1 overall record and is one of two teams undefeated in MVC play, at 2-0. Missouri State currently sits atop the league standings with a 3-0 conference mark. Drake is ranked 37th in the country in the latest NSCAA poll, receiving five votes.
The Bulldogs are riding a four-game winning streak and have won five of their last six, with a 1-0 loss at No. 20 Northern Illinois being the only setback. They feature two of the league's top five scorers in Matt Kuhn (8 goals, 2 assists) and Charles Schwartz, who leads the league with 7 assists to go with his 4 goals.
Drake leads the all-time series 2-1, winning 2-1 in double overtime last year. The Bears defeated the Bulldogs 2-0 in 2006 – UCA's first year of Division I competition – in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Bears enter the week's games in search of their first home win of the season, sitting 0-3 with losses to Eastern Illinois, UMKC and IPFW. Evansville is 1-2 on the road and Drake is 4-2-1.
