Freshman Courtney Duever had 12 points, 8 steals and 6 rebounds in Tuesday's win
CONWAY — In their final non-conference tune-up, the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears had little difficulty in disposing of Ecclesia College – tying their season scoring high as they rolled to a 93-54 victory over the Lady Royals on Tuesday. The Sugar Bears (8-5) had four players in double figures, led by a career-high 15 from Britney Gowans. Westin Taylor had 14, Desiree' Rogers 13 and freshman center Courtney Duever had 12 along with a career-high eight steals – the most for a Sugar Bear this season. The outcome was never in doubt as the Sugar Bears took just three seconds to score the game's first basket, and ran out to a 15-1 lead in the game's opening minutes. The lead would reach as many as 28 in the first half, and UCA held a 52-26 lead at the break. The Sugar Bears scored the first seven points of the second half and quickly built the lead to 33. It hit 40 at 73-33 midway through the half and peaked at 45 with nine minutes left. UCA shot 45.9 percent for the game and hit 11 3-pointers, led by four from Taylor. Destinee Rogers had five assists to lead the way for the Sugar Bears, who had a season-high 26 as a team. UCA also had 27 steals for the second consecutive game, with Jelessa Williams adding six and Gowans five in addition to Duever's eight. Last season the Sugar Bears defeated the Lady Royals 119-59, a game in which Taylor had 38 points, including hitting 10 3-pointers – all in the second half and Herbert had 31 points and 17 rebounds.
