CONWAY — After more than 109 minutes of scoreless action, Missouri State spoiled Central Arkansas' Missouri Valley Conference debut with a goal in the final minute to escape Conway with a 1-0 victory on Saturday.

With only 32 seconds remaining in the second overtime, Missouri State (3-4, 1-0 MVC) broke the tie when Gerard Barbero's free kick from the top of the 18-yard box veered left and got by the outstretched arms of diving UCA goalkeeper Ivan Zarate to secure the win.

Missouri State nearly ended it in the final minute of regulation, but Zarate was able to corral the shot by Paul Paradise for one of his three saves in the game.

UCA (1-6, 0-1) was unable to create much of an attack in the overtime periods, never testing Missouri State keeper Alex Riggs.

The teams had seven shots apiece, with Missouri State registering four on goal to just one for UCA. Each team also had six corner kicks.

UCA was whistled for 12 fouls and Missouri State six. UCA was hit with two yellow cards and Mickey Segura was issued a red in the first overtime period. A caution was also issued to the Missouri State bench.

With the loss, UCA suffered its fifth one-goal defeat of the season and fell in double overtime for the second time – having dropped a 1-0 decision to UMKC earlier in the season.

UCA will play at Alabama A&M, Houston Baptist and Memphis before resuming MVC play against Eastern Illinois on Oct. 13.
