SUGAR BEARS ROUT CENTRAL BAPTIST 76-35

Nakeia Guiden had 12 points in her first game of the season
CONWAY — Sophomore forward Desiree' Rogers had a season-high 17 points and junior guard Nakeia Guiden added 12 in her season debut as Central Arkansas routed Central Baptist College 76-35 Monday night in the Farris Center.

The Sugar Bears (4-4) led 21-12 late in the first half, then used a 15-2 run over a 4:30 span to extend the lead beyond 20 just before the break and put the game out of reach for the Lady Mustangs (2-10).

The second half was more of the same as the Sugar Bears outscored CBC 40-19 over the last 20 minutes en route to their most lopsided victory of the season. It was the widest margin of victory for UCA since the Sugar Bears defeated Wiley College 85-44 on Dec. 14 of last year.

UCA dominated nearly every aspect of the game against its intra-city foe, out-shooting the Lady Mustangs 40 percent to 23.9; holding a 51-36 rebounding advantage; a 44-4 lead in points in the paint; 33-9 in points off turnovers and 29-0 in fast break points.

The Sugar Bears, who played all 14 who dressed for the game, had 37 points off the bench to CBC's six. In all, 12 Sugar Bears scored and three finished in double figures with Megan Herbert adding 10 to Rogers' 17 and 12 from Guiden – playing her first game of the season after missing the first seven due to injury.

Sophomore center Chantel Moss had a career-high eight rebounds in 12 minutes to lead the Sugar Bears, and junior guard Destinee Rogers had a season-high six assists. Guiden and junior Sidney Stewart each had four steals for UCA, which had 10 players record a total of 22 steals. The Sugar Bears forced 34 turnovers in all.

Casey Williams led CBC with seven points, with Sammi Fowler and Britney Nealy each adding six. Ashley Williams paced the Lady Mustangs with six rebounds.

The Sugar Bears return to action Saturday when they host Eastern Kentucky out of the Ohio Valley Conference at 2 p.m.
