Success Follows UCA's Rogers – Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

After three seasons on the court, former Sugar Bear guard Destinee Rogers enters her fifth season on the Central Arkansas bench, having had a hand in the Sugar Bears' greatest era of success both as a player and coach.

Between her time as a player and coach at Central Arkansas, Rogers has been a part of 129 wins and countless milestones including the program's first Division I NCAA Tournament appearance, first regular season and tournament conference championships in Division I as a member of the Southland Conference, and the program's first appearances in Division I postseason tournaments such as the WNIT and WBI in the first two years of postseason eligibility after transitioning from Division II.

In 2015-16 she helped guide the Sugar Bears to a historic season as they earned their first D-I NCAA Tournament berth after winning a program-record 28 games, broke the program record for regular-season wins with 26 and Southland Conference wins with 16, going undefeated on the road in conference play for the first time in program history and putting together an impressive 15-1 record away from home, winning 15 straight road and neutral games after an early-season loss at No. 4 Tennessee – the nation's 4th-longest streak in 2015-16 behind only UConn, South Carolina and Colorado State. After winning its first Southland Conference tournament, Central Arkansas received a 14-seed in the NCAA Tournament, the highest for a Southland Conference team since 2007. The 28 wins was also the most for a Southland team since 2000, and was the 4th-highest win total in league history. Central Arkansas spent a large portion of the season ranked in the Mid-Major Top 25, peaking at No. 18, and finished the season with the 2nd highest RPI among Arkansas Division I teams, finishing ahead of Arkansas, Little Rock, and UA-Pine Bluff and among the national top 100. The Sugar Bears were one of the nation's top defensive team, leading the country in scoring defense for much of the defense, before entering the NCAA Tournament ranked 9th nationally and finishing with a school record 51.8 ppg allowed, the 3rd-best mark in Southland Conference history.

In 2014-15, she helped guide the Sugar Bears to their 6th straight season with a .500 or better record as the team finished 17-14 and qualified for their 5th straight Southland Conference tournament.  Sophomore guards Maggie Proffitt and Brianna Mullins, whom Rogers was heavily involved in the recruiting efforts of, were selected 2nd and 3rd team All-Southland Conference and 2nd team Southland All-Academic.

In 2013-14 she was instrumental in the recruitment of guard Brianna Mullins, who would go on to be selected as the 2014 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year. Under Rogers' guidance, Mullins and fellow freshman guard Maggie Proffitt were the team's 2nd and 3rd-leading scorers behind Southland Player of the Year Courtney Duever, averaging a combined 19.7 points per game while shooting 39 percent (84 of 216) from 3-point range.

Rogers, who graduated from Central Arkansas in 2012 and again in 2014 with her Master's, remains with the program for which she started three seasons and helped guide to a Southland Conference championship in 2012. During her junior and senior seasons, she served as the floor general for a Sugar Bears team that went 45-19 and made the program's first Division I postseason appearances (in its first two seasons eligible), hosting UAB in the 2011 WBI and traveling to Oklahoma State in the 2012 WNIT.

She led the Sugar Bears in scoring during her freshman season at 9.9 points per game, and finished her career with averages of 7.4 points, 3.2 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game with more than 100 3-point field goals to her credit, and over her final two seasons had a 1.8:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

During her final season, she was an All-Southland Conference honorable mention.

In her first season on the Sugar Bears coaching staff she had the opportunity to coach her younger sister Desiree', a four-year letterwinner for the Sugar Bears who became the 21st player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark.

Rogers is the daughter of Angie and Ronald Rogers – a successful high school coach in Arkansas, winning a total of four state championships at two schools:  two at Class 2A Strong and another pair at Class 5A Camden Fairview before taking over at Little Rock Christian in 2014.
