- A native of York, Pennsylvania
- Ranked as one of the top 100 high school players in the nation in 2003 as a senior at West York High School (York, PA)
- According to Perfect Game in 2003:  "Trent Kline might be the best catcher in high school baseball"
- Drafted by the Montreal Expos in 2003
- Ranked as the 19th best prospect at the East Coast Professional Showcase in 2002
- Attended The University of North Carolina (member of the #1 ranked recruiting class in the country)
- After red-shirting at UNC, transferred to St. Petersburg Community College in Clearwater, Florida
While at St. Pete:
- Won State Championship
- Runner up at the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado in 2005
- Transferred to University of South Carolina (member of the #1 ranked recruiting class in the country) 
While at USC:
- played for legendary Coach Ray Tanner (who won back to back National Championships at USC in 2010 and 2011)
- Johnny Bench Award Semifinalist
- CoSIDA Academic All-District first team
- Named to NCAA Columbia (S.C.) Regional All-Tournament team in 2007
- Played in two NCAA Super Regionals (2006 in Athens, Georgia vs. The University of Georgia and 2007 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina vs. The University of North Carolina)
- Drafted by San Francisco Giants in 2007 and played 2 years
- Coached by Tom Trebelhorn (Manager for the Milwaukee Brewers (1986–1991) and Chicago Cubs (1994)), Kirt Manwaring (Played 13 Major League seasons from 1987 until 1999 with the San Francisco Giants, Houston Astros, and Colorado Rockies as a catcher), and Brian Harper (16 year Major League veteran catcher)   
- Played with Buster Posey, Madison Bumgarner, and Brandon Crawford last year of pro ball
