NBA Champion, Finals MVP and 5-time All-Star Chauncey Billups was on hand as the Sugar Bears beat Indiana in front of a program-record crowd of 3,450 on Nov. 11, 2011 Since its opening in January of 1972, the Farris Center has been the home of the Central Arkansas men's and women's basketball programs, and has seen many memorable moments.
The Sugar Bears have found home to be incredibly sweet through the years, winning nearly 75 percent of their games inside the building. Since 2010, the Sugar Bears have won 80 percent of their games at home, including a perfect 16-0 season in 2011-12 and a 15-1 mark in 2009-10. Their highest-profile wins in the arena came in 2011 with victories over Indiana and Alabama, and they celebrated their first Southland Conference championship on their home floor in 2012, cutting down the nets following a win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the regular season finale.
The Sugar Bears broke the program attendance record by drawing 2,953 into the Farris Center on March 17, 2011 against UAB in the first round of the Women's Basketball Invitational postseason tournament – the program's first Division I postseason tournament appearance, then followed by breaking it twice in a four-day period the following season when they opened with back-to-back wins over Indiana and Alabama, drawing nearly 7,000 total fans to the arena.
The 5,500-seat facility was the home arena for NBA great and Hall of Fame member Scottie Pippen from 1984-87 and has been the home for seven Sugar Bear All-Americans including Carone Harris, the NCAA's all-time career steals leader. The Farris Center hosted an NCAA regional in 2005 and has attracted some of the nation's elite talent while serving as the host site for some of the most prestigious national AAU tournaments. The arena is also the host site for the annual Arkansas High School Coaches Association all-star games.
In the summer of 2010, the court underwent a complete renovation which prominently features the new UCA athletics marks. New scoreboards, including a video board, were installed prior to the 2010-11 season. A new film room was also completed in 2010, following office and locker room renovations in 2009.
The arena drew a record crowd on Jan. 20, 2010 when the university retired Scottie Pippen's jersey in a special ceremony.
