CONWAY, Ark. – Opening day of Central Arkansas women's soccer did not go according to plan, as the Bears dropped the opening match of the season against Oral Roberts.
The Bears (0-1) dropped the 4-1 final score at home, with four players making their Purple and Gray debuts.
Liza Dugan tallied the lone goal for the Bears, notching her first collegiate score.
Early on in the match, the action was fairly back and forth, with both sides making runs into the opposing defenses. The Bears had an early corner kick, but couldn't get anything out of the attempt. The first wave of subs for the Golden Eagles near the 30 minute mark proved to be a good decision, with the changes resulting in the first goal of the night, with the second following shortly afterwards.
It didn't take long into the second half for the deficit to grow, and by the 65
th minute, the Golden Eagles had done all the damage necessary. Central Arkansas continued to fight and push the pace, but struggled to get the ball in dangerous spots with the right numbers to capitalize. Finally, in the 68
th, Dugan found the net after a free kick from
Megan Moudy bounced through the box to the freshman's waiting feet. The teams continued to battle back and forth, but the score held to the final whistle.
Central Arkansas is on the road for the next couple of matches, starting with a trip to face the Golden Hurricane of Tulsa on Sunday.
