CLARKSVILLE, TN. - The Central Arkansas Beach Bears opened the Austin Peay Beach Volleyball Classic with a perfect 2-0 record on Friday, earning wins over Texas A&M–Kingsville (3-2) and Tennessee Tech (4-1) in Clarksville, Tennessee.
In the morning dual, the Beach Bears battled to a narrow 3-2 victory over Texas A&M–Kingsville. Central Arkansas picked up key wins on courts four and five to build early momentum, as Allison Heck and Ella Weilert cruised to a 21-12, 21-15 win, followed by Anna Jaworski and Liliana Irizarry's 21-13, 21-19 victory.
With the match on the line, the No. 1 pair of Natalie Blum and Anna Linskey delivered the clinching point in comeback fashion. After dropping the opening set, the duo rallied to win 12-21, 21-14, 15-10 to secure the team victory.
The Beach Bears carried that momentum into their afternoon matchup against Tennessee Tech, where they earned a decisive 4-1 win.
Central Arkansas dominated the middle courts, with Chandler Lawrence and Madelyn White (No. 2), Brooke Sharp and Ella Layzell (No. 3), and Ella Weilert and Allison Heck (No. 4) all securing straight-set victories. Jaworski and Irizarry continued their strong day at the No. 5 position, adding another win with a 21-16, 21-18 decision.
Tennessee Tech's lone point came in a tightly contested three-set battle on court one.
With the two wins, the Beach Bears showcased depth and consistency across the lineup, finishing the day with strong momentum heading into Saturday's matches.
Central Arkansas returns to action tomorrow to face host Austin Peay at 12:00 p.m., followed by a 2:00 p.m. matchup against McKendree.
