Preview: #1 Seed Bears Begin ASUN Championship on Friday

Conway, Ark.- The #1 seed University of Central Arkansas Bears (20-11, 15-3) will play in the ASUN Championship tournament on Friday against the #8 seed Bellarmine University Knights (13-18, 7-11), tip-off is set for 11:00 a.m. in Jacksonville, Florida. All games from the quarter finals forward will be played at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. The Bears and Knights have played twice so far this season with each team winning at home. The game in Louisville went to overtime before the Knights could pull out the win, in Conway the Bears were down one at halftime before winning the game by eight. Javion Guy-King scored a combined 30 points in the previous match-ups including a 3-pointer at the end of regulation at Bellarmine to send the game to OT. Ty Robinson scored a combined 39 points and Camren Hunter scored a combined 38 points in the first two match-ups.

With a win on Friday, the Bears will play on Saturday in the semifinals at 4:00 p.m. against the winner of the #5 FGCU vs #4 Lipscomb match-up being played on Friday, March 6th at 1:30 p.m. The final is scheduled to be played at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8th.

Last time out, the Bears won their first ever NCAA D1 men's basketball regular season by beating Queens 84-79 on senior day. The Bears lone senior, Camren Hunter, scored 30 points in the game and went 12-12 from the free throw line. Javion Guy-King added 18 points and Ty Robinson scored 12 points in the historic win. Also this week, the ASUN announced their post season honors. Camren Hunter was selected as the ASUN Player of the Year and was a unanimous 1st Team All-ASUN selection. Ty Robinson was selected to the 2nd Team All-ASUN, All-Freshman Team and ASUN All-Academic Team.

Tip-off is set for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 6th at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. The quarter and semifinal tournament games will be broadcast live on ESPN+ (the Final will be on ESPN2), The Bear 91.3 and Jack 92.7 or you can follow live stats online.
