CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas softball team gets set for a rematch with No. 9/10 Arkansas on Tuesday, hosting the Razorbacks at Natalie Shock Stadium. The Bears and Hogs will have a first pitch of 6 p.m.
The Bears (21-12) captured their first ASUN series of the year this past weekend, defeating Lipscomb in two of three games in Nashville. Central Arkansas outscored the Bisons 26-14 over the three games, picking up the first two games in run-rule style.
Renee Christian continued to swing a stellar bat, raising her average to .427 overall and .458 in ASUN games. The junior outfielder hit 5-for-13 over the weekend, scoring three runs and driving in two more. She was a key part in the Bears hitting over .400 in both of the first two games as the Bears put down double-digit hits in all three contests.
Also hitting the ball well since the start of ASUN play is
Emma Robertson. Hitting a team-high .471 in ASUN games, the graduate slugger has shown that elite pop in the bat, slugging .941 with a pair of home runs. She leads the team in ASUN games with 11 RBI and six walks drawn.
The Bears and Razorbacks played a week ago in Fayetteville, and although the Bears lost, they did do a good job of not letting Arkansas use the longball to pile on runs. Arkansas has hit a home run in all but six games this season, with the Bears notching themselves as the fifth such game. Central Arkansas also turned a pair of double plays in Fayetteville, just the second team to turn two on the Hogs multiple times in a game.
Arkansas enters the week 27-4, having swept UConn over the weekend since last playing the Bears. The Hogs are hitting .382 as a team after the series, after logging 32 hits across the weekend.
The Razorbacks have four players hitting over .400 this season, led by Brinli Bain's .443 average. The Hogs have six players with 30 or more hits, and ten players with at least one home run. In the circle, four of the five pitchers with more than ten innings this season have an ERA under 2.50. But the Bears were pretty solid against a pitching staff that averages more than six strikeouts per game, getting sat down on strikes just twice in Fayetteville.
First pitch against the Hogs is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, with gates opening at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online.
