CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas (7-5) secured a 9-3 victory over South Dakota State University (4-7) on Sunday at Bear Stadium. This win was Head Coach
Nick Harlan's, 100th win as Head Bear at UCA. Central Arkansas broke the game open with a six-run eighth inning, capitalizing on the Jackrabbits' three errors.
Central Arkansas took an early lead in the first inning when
Zeb Allen reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a single by
Jack Runsick, scoring on a throwing error for an unearned run. The score was 1-0 after the first inning.
The fifth inning saw South Dakota State tie the game at 2-2. A single and a walk loaded the bases, and RBIs from Wachter and Taylor brought in two runs. In the bottom half, the Bears responded as
Zach Adams singled and
Jagger Schattle hit a two-run homer to right field, reclaiming the lead at 3-2 through five innings.
In the eighth inning, South Dakota State narrowed the lead with a solo homer from Taylor, making it 3-3. However, Central Arkansas broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the inning.
Jayden Sloan singled, and after a series of walks and a hit-by-pitch,
Landon Carter's RBI fielder's choice triggered the scoring.
Parker Gwyn was hit by a pitch to score another, followed by a two-RBI single from Adams. An error allowed another run, and Sloan's sacrifice fly added the final run of the inning, extending the lead to 9-3 through eight innings.
Central Arkansas held the Jackrabbits scoreless in the ninth inning to secure a 9-3 victory.
Caide White started on the mound for Central Arkansas, pitching 4 2/3 innings while allowing two earned runs on four hits. White struck out four batters and walked five, throwing a total of 94 pitches with 54 strikes.
Braxton Haywood made a brief relief appearance, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings without allowing a hit and striking out one.
Hunter Alexander closed out the game, pitching three innings, allowing one run on two hits, including a home run, while striking out four and earning the win.
